Western show apparel?

Is it acceptable to wear a vest with a button up show shirt in western? I have a green western button up shirt, but at our horse show it’s not dressy enough. It’s supposed to be a nice local show, but all the bigger showing kids come to practice. My shirt is very plain and i was wondering if it’d be okay to wear a fancier vest over it, but i’ve only seen people wear vests with slinkies. I’d rather not look for a new show shirt because it took me a long time to find a matching green for my saddle pad. I’d be showing in western pleasure and in western horsemanship.
The only rules are that the shirt has to be long sleeved and appropriate for the event showing in. I was just wondering if people wear vests with button ups.
It’s just a 4-h show, but our 4-h show is pretty competitive.

As a Rule you do not want to wear a vest in the summer time because of the heat. You need a long sleeve button up western shirt that is fairley nice, at least as nice as your hat. If it were an AQHA show they would be looking at the horse and how you ride more than your shirt, but some of the little shows its all about dress, not how well you ride, or how well the horse does. At some of the small shows you could not win if you had a world beeter, and rode a perfect sesion. Lots of politicks in smaller show, thats why I stoped shoing in them, If I am going to get beat it going to be by someone who knows what there doing, not just because of who they are.
