What do i do with my neighbor’s mistreated rottie?

Here’e the scoop: A house across the street from mine owns an intact male rottweiler, and a female doberman. Their rottie is severely undeweight and keeps getting out of their yard. While jogging behind the subdivision, he actually jumped through a hole in their back fence and aggressively attacked me. The good news is, growing up with big dogs and horses, I knew how to handle it. But there are tons of school-age kids that run around the neighborhood all the time and I am worried for their safety.

Here are my options:

Do I report the dog to the SPCA and wait for them to deal with it?

Do I confront the owners before contacting the SPCA?

Do I just wait for him to run around again and catch him,put him in the car and haul him down to the SPCA and report him as a found stray that has already attacked me once?

I want that dog out of those people’s possesion as soon as possible, but I am not sure if I should report them and risk their harrassment if they find out.

ASPCA is a great option. Obviously the owners don’t care for the dog. I know rotties, I’ve lived with one, and from what you are describing he’s not been trained, not being cared for properly and is on the road to actually hurting someone. Early intervention would be best here. You never know what could happen, and you are right to worry about the children in the neighborhood.

The ASPCA may start off with a notice/warning. Then later check up to see if the issue has been corrected. IF not then they take the dog into possession, unless living conditions are way below standard.

This dog could turn into someones best friend if cared for properly.
